Newly introduced DJI Air 3s and the differences to the DJI Air 3
Drone pilots have had a few things to criticize about the DJI Air 3, DJI has taken this into account and has not let itself be lumped into the DJI Air 3s. What are these differences? We explain that in this article!
Legal regulations of the drone
The DJI Air 3 and DJI Air 3s are above the legal regulations in which you can get by with just registering the drone. For the Air 3S, you should have the EU drone license A1/A3. As always, you may only fly the drone within visual range and may not fly over crowds of people. Local regulations regarding flight zones and the like must also be observed. In Germany, the Droniq app can help you with this, while in Austria the Drohnen-Info app is a good guide.
Larger sensor +amp; the two focal lengths
Many customers were put off buying the DJI Air 3 because, like its big sister, it now had two cameras with 24mm (50 megapixels) and 70mm (20 megapixels), but these only had a smaller sensor. DJI has therefore reacted and given the wide-angle camera a 1 inch sensor and also revised the sensor of the 70mm (1/1.3 inch). The image quality is now even better. The camera offers a dynamic range of 14 f-stops, which is pretty cool!
LiDAR technology for detecting potential obstacles
We are already familiar with LiDAR sensors from many products in our everyday lives and LiDAR has already served DJI well, with the autofocus system providing a very good and efficient solution for focusing manual Lens.
But what exactly is this new improvement in DJI drones? These are used for obstacle detection at night or in adverse lighting situations. Of course, like the DJI Air 3, the drone is already equipped with omnidirectional obstacle detection, which offers very good and reliable flight safety for the drone during the day. The propellers can also be further protected with a propeller guard, which can be purchased as an optional accessory.
With the new and optimized Return-to-Home, the drone remembers the path it has flown and can fly it back safely without taking the direct route that could cause a collision.
Further innovations to the obstacle sensors
For the Air 3s, there are now a few more functions relating to the sensor system that are really exciting! For example, the drone offers the option of switching on an additional auxiliary light for the sensors when landing in the dark in order to improve the measurement results. This comes with the further improvement or rather change in the sensor technology, so you can now access the Vision Assist and see what is happening around the drone via the built-in sensor cameras, this also works in ground view.

Video quality of the Air 3s
The DJI Air 3s has also received a few small adjustments here, which ultimately set it apart from the Air 3. Here, the camera offers 20 fps more in 4K and thus achieves 4K 120p in slow motion, where the DJI Air 3 only managed 100p. In HDR, the drone records 4K at 60p and vertical 2.7k also at 60p.
Further functions of the DJI Air 3s
Those who love features can look forward to a special feature on the DJI Air 3s: Waypoints. With this, the drone flies a defined route and records the route. The camera and speed can be clearly defined. If we stay with locomotion, the DJI Air 3s also offers the option of using cruise control, which keeps the speed constant, just like when driving a car. Photography with the DJI Air 3s also offers a panorama function, which stitches several shots together to create a high-resolution megapixel panorama. The pilot can choose how many images are taken and stitched together, as well as the aspect ratio of the image. Like the Mini 4 Pro, the Air 3s also has a larger internal memory of 48 GB on board.
QuickShots and Hyperlaps are also on board, as well as MasterShots. Of course, the most important feature is also included: Focustrack, so you can always keep your subject perfectly in the frame.
Conclusion
Our conclusion on the Air 3s is that this drone provides its predecessor, the DJI Air 3, with some really useful upgrades and we can look forward to seeing which of these will find their way into the new generation of mini drones. The flight time of 45 minutes is also very acceptable and with the Fly More Kit, it also offers enough battery power for extensive flights.
