  • Wide-angle Lens for Sony E-mount full frame
  • high speed for attractive background sharpness
  • comfortably light at 215g
  • compact size
  • short focusing distance of only 12 cm
  • noiseless OSD (Optimized Silent Drive) motor
  • water and grease repellent fluorine coating
  • supports various manufacturer-specific AF functions of Sony cameras, e.g. Fast Hybrid AF, AF with eye detection and Direct Manual Focus (DMF)

This fixed focal length is characterized by its unprecedented light weight and advanced performance parameters. It is suitable as a universal lens for reportage.
This model has a filter diameter of 67 mm and meets Tamron's specifications in terms of size and weight. It also allows pictures to be taken from an extremely short distance: for the first time in this lens class, macro shots with a reproduction scale of 1:2 are possible. The lens housing is weather-sealed (against moisture), and dirt and fingerprints on the front lens element can be easily removed thanks to the water and grease-repellent fluorine coating. It is compatible with Sony's proprietary camera functions, such as Fast Hybrid AF or Eye Detection AF, and also offers a range of advanced features that guarantee ease of use and fantastic image results.

The optical design of the Lens, developed using the latest technology, ensures exceptionally high imaging performance over the entire image area thanks to the targeted arrangement of LD (Low Dispersion) and GM (Glass-Molded asperical) elements. In this way, the distortion typical of wide-angle Lens is minimized to such an extent that any remaining aberrations can be completely eliminated by in-camera correction. Tamron's much-praised BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coating reduces reflections inside the Lens, effectively minimizing ghosting and flare. Thanks to its excellent optical imaging performance and camera-based distortion correction, this fixed focal length is suitable for practically any photographic situation, from spontaneous family snapshots to demanding professional tasks.

Thanks to its length of 64 mm, it is pleasantly compact and forms a well-balanced unit in conjunction with Sony E-mount cameras. The Lens has a front extension, but retains its length when focusing, which is advantageous for close-ups. The focus ring is located at the front of the Lens, making it very convenient to focus manually using your thumb and index finger.

The autofocus system is based on a silent OSD (Optimized Silent Drive) motor. This is not only much quieter in operation than conventional AF motors, but also focuses on the subject much faster and more precisely. This is particularly advantageous when shooting video, as no disturbing noises are recorded. Focusing is also carried out with outstanding precision when AF tracking moving objects. In addition, the new fixed focal length supports various manufacturer-specific AF functions of Sony cameras, including Fast Hybrid AF, AF with eye detection and Direct Manual Focus (DMF).

The bayonet ring and other critical points on the lens housing are sealed against moisture and splash water. This means that the Lens can be used outdoors even in adverse weather conditions. The front lens is coated with a water and grease-repellent fluorine coating, which ensures that the lens surface is very easy to clean and less susceptible to soiling, such as fingerprints or splashes of dirt. This weather protection is particularly important for Lens that allow the subject to be photographed at close range.

The new fixed focal length is compatible with many advanced functions of mirrorless system cameras**.
These include:
- fast hybrid autofocus
- AF with eye detection
- Direct Manual Focus (DMF)
- integrated lens correction (vignetting, color fringing, distortion)
- update of the lens firmware via the camera

** Functionality depends on the camera model used. Further information can be found in the camera manual. Status: September 2019
