Compatible with the following devices
Advanced VX NexStar GT
AstroFi NexStar SE Series
NexStar Evolution SkyProdigy
NexStar SLT LCM Series
With the PowerTank Lithium LT, our smallest and lightest lithium-ion battery pack, you can power your telescope anywhere. This handy device is a must-have for your telescope and accessories, camping gear, emergency kit and more.

Stable power for telescopes
The PowerTank Lithium LT uses Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide [LiNiMnCoO2] technology, also known as NMC technology, which provides consistent power over long periods of time and requires less maintenance than a traditional sealed lead-acid battery.

Unlike other lithium-ion power supplies in this price range, the PowerTank Lithium LT was designed by astronomers for astronomers - specifically for the unique requirements of computerized telescopes.

Modern telescope electronics are very sensitive to incorrect voltage. If a telescope is operated with too low a voltage, this can cause the motors to suffer at higher loads and the electronics can even fail. The PowerTank Lithium LT uses a built-in voltage regulator to ensure that it delivers at least 11.8 volts the entire time until the battery is nearly dead and shuts down.

There are batteries from other suppliers that claim to contain enough watt-hours of electricity to run your telescope for hours. However, the technology in these batteries was originally designed to power much lower voltage electronics, such as CPAP breathing masks for home use. Although the actual voltage output starts at 12 V, it drops rapidly, affecting the performance of your telescope and becoming useless within about 2-3 hours.

Celestron's telescope engineers worked hand-in-hand with the battery suppliers on PowerTank Lithium LT to ensure that this drop in performance does not occur. The built-in voltage regulator ensures a stable 12 V output voltage, regardless of the amount of charge remaining in the battery. This keeps your telescope's electronics safe and powerful, so you can focus on astronomy.

The NMC technology used by the PowerTank Lithium LT offers far more advantages than the commonly used lithium cobalt oxide storage batteries available on the market today. Our NMC battery not only has a longer shelf life and three times as many charge cycles as LiCoO2 storage cells, but also offers overcharge and deep discharge protection and can withstand temperatures 60° C higher than LiCoO2 batteries, so the NMC cells are less likely to thermally overheat.

Compared to a classic lead-acid battery, the PowerTank Lithium LT is smaller, lighter, more efficient and better for the environment. It offers better performance, longer life and safer operation than other, cheaper lithium-ion batteries. It also offers automatic shutdown, reverse polarity protection and charge/discharge protection as well as protection against overvoltage and short circuit.

Use in the field
Thanks to the extremely handy body, you can take the battery pack anywhere, from remote locations with dark skies for astrophotography to a camping weekend. You can attach it to your telescope with the supplied 2" straps on the tripod leg, where it won't get in the way. Apart from the power cable for charging your telescope, no other cables are required.

The PowerTank Lithium LT has connections for a wide range of devices. There are two output connections: A 12V DC port for the telescope and a 2.1A fast-charging USB charging port for smartphones and tablets. This USB port also works with accessories that require 5V via USB.

Travel with the PowerTank
The PowerTank Lithium LT can also accompany you on your next vacation. With 73.3 Wh, it complies with the current FAA regulations (160 Wh) for transportation in hand luggage. Please check with your airline in advance to make sure they do not have stricter guidelines.
